Unit 6 / Listening 4B
You will find the answers at the bottom of the page.
Caroline:
Tom: Yes it has been a while since we've done this, hasn't it?
Caroline:
Tom: So, tell me about this business venture that you're working on with Simon.
Caroline:
Tom: Well, yes, I had gathered that, indeed. And of course, you're quite right we don't have enough time for each other any more.
Caroline:
Tom: Wow, that's a big step.
Caroline:
Tom: So what does Simon have to say about all of this?
Caroline:
Tom: Admin? That doesn't sound like Simon.
Caroline:
Tom: Really?
Caroline:
Tom: Yes, well I dare say that's probably rather sensible. But you never know. The day will surely come when the sight of another airport will have me running in the opposite direction.
Caroline:
Tom: I think that sounds sensible too. In the meantime, here comes the waiter. Have you chosen?
Caroline: Ah! Finally, we get to spend a bit of time together.
Caroline: It's been so long I'm open to the idea that this is a hallucination!
Caroline: Well, as you know I've been looking for greener pastures, career-wise. It's not that I don't enjoy doing window displays, but it gets a bit dull after a while. And theatre work is far too unpredictable for me to be able to rely on it. And as you also know I've been becoming increasingly frustrated by the state of our relationship.
Caroline: Well I've been thinking, and to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak, I want to set up a production company for documentaries that would employ reporters like you and Simon or that Gina girl.
Caroline: I'm really serious about this. Simon and I have started to attend a business course that's run by the Camden borough council - the instructor there said it sounded like a very viable project. That's on a professional level, but on a personal level too, I think it will help us to connect again because we could actually be involved in the same projects.
Caroline: He's very keen. He reckons that between us we've got all the right sorts of contacts, and he'd be very happy to help me with the administrative side of things.
Caroline: Maybe not, but he's ready for a change. After his trip to Siberia, he rather likes the idea of settling down.
Caroline: Well, you know, it would be nice if you were thinking along the same lines too, but I'm not placing any bets on that.
Caroline: I'll believe that when I see it. And I don't want any more promises about holidays in Dominica. We'll just take things day by day, shall we?
