Unit 7 / Listening 1A / 1
Tom and Gina are in Nairobi, Kenya .
Tom: I honestly don't know if this is going to be a waste of time or not.
Gina: It's worth a try anyway. It would have been easier to go to Harley Street, but since Jason Freedman's not available…
Tom:
Gina: All the same, it's better to keep on moving than stay at home. The only way to find a missing person is to keep on looking.
Tom:
Gina: It seems to me you're going though a bad patch with her at the moment.
Tom:
Gina: What kind of productions?
Tom:
Gina: Wow, sounds like a great way of keeping an eye on her boyfriend! Pause . Listen, I'm sure things will sort themselves out when you're back at home a bit longer.
Tom:
Gina: Me?
Tom:
Gina: I don't mind talking about it. But there's nothing to tell really. I split up with my boyfriend a couple of months ago. We had the same problems as you and Caroline. He wanted me to settle down, have children. And I do want children. But not just yet. Or not with Jeff anyway. It didn't feel right.
Tom:
Gina: Yes. But I didn't expect to be doing quite as much as this. Africa … I've never been here before. Nairobi. I love the name, but I'm not sure if the city's that wonderful.
Tom:
Gina: Do you know Africa well, Tom?
Tom:
Gina: Really? Why?
Tom:
Gina: I think so. It's a place of extremes - is that it?
Tom:
Gina: Well, human life did begin here, didn't it?
Tom: That's what most scientists believe, yes. In the Olduvai valley. A couple of hundred miles away in fact.
